MIND Priorities

The MIND portion of the campaign will allow the academic programs and student success initiatives of Catawba to see strategic growth. These programs aim to enable Catawba to thrive, recruit and retain exceptional students. The college plans to raise $28 million for projects in the MIND area of the campaign.

Environment and Science - $8.9 Million
  • Renovate Shuford Science building 
  • Refurbish all science laboratories, including updated equipment
  • Expand environmental programs’ and labs’ offering with a focus in sustainability and energy, policy and advocacy, and bioinformatics
  • Establish graduate program in Environmental Studies
  • Establish scholarships, internships, and travel support for students to expand their educational opportunities
Health Science - $3.9 Million
  • Refurbish anatomy and exercise science laboratories
  • Refresh Psychology area and laboratory in Hedrick Administration building
  • Establish undergraduate programs in Art & Music Therapy, Health & Sports Psychology
  • Create an accelerated BSN program
  • Establish Sports Management graduate program
  • Establish ORAC (Outdoor Recreation and Activities Center) for expanded student fitness
Performing Arts - $1 Million
  • FUNDED: Renovate the Theater annex facility
  • Refurbishment of Hoke Hall music spaces and recording studio
  • Add new Dean of the Adrian L., Jr. and Dorothy L. Shuford School of Performing Arts
Business - $4.5 Million
  • Create Multi-Camera Production laboratory
  • Expand opportunities for students in the CEED program
  • Expand undergraduate programs in digital media production, computer science with a focus on augmented reality, and mobile technologies
  • Establish Department of Communications Public Relations major
  • Establish Data Analytics, and Health Care graduate programs
Student Success - $2.3 Million
  • FUNDED: Hire Success Coaches to help students navigate college life and improve retention efforts from freshman to sophomore years
  • Establish retention software to connect all campus departments in monitoring at risk students
  • Establish an endowment for the Honors Program 
  • Expand tutoring offerings of the Writing and Math Centers in the Corriher-Linn-Black Library
Catawba Impact Areas: Internships, Research and Creativity, Travel and Services Learning - $2.8 Million
  • Establish Impact student sponsorship grants
  • Create Impact Hubs with staff support in 4 impact areas
  • Add digital badging software for student resumes
  • Create Career Service Impact grants for students to purchase business and interview attire
  • Create the Innovate. Create. Engage space in Corriher-Linn-Black Library – an experimental classroom for engaged learning
  • Add one-of-a-kind technology in Microsoft holographic classes for expanded student learning beyond the classroom
  • Create a MakerSpace in the Corriher-Linn-Black Library to provide tools for 3D printing, video editing, digital production software and more 
Scholarship Support - $1 Million

• Add endowed scholarship to support students’ growing financial needs
• Establish additional gifts made to current endowments to increase overall scholarship support

Academic Buildings and Deferred Maintenance - $3.5 Million
